2011a Material Update
Note: Before proceeding, if you have added materials to the RCS database that cannot be found within the ASME Electronic Stress Tables, copy \rcswin\mt\mtall.10 to \rcswin\mt\mtall.11a and these materials will be retained.

To update MTALL.11a using MTALL.10:

Select Tools->Setup->Material Update
Select the options as desired and run. If you need help with this, contact RCS for further instructions.

  • Changed the Run Cert option to function the same as Execute All - this runs all of the programs in Batch mode.  The programs and sequence are in a file called \RCSWin\Def\Exec_all.data.  If desired, you can add other programs to this execution sequence.  For example, you could add the tbc program to the end of this file if you wanted to automatically run the tube layout in menu mode after running all calculations.  This is useful if you know there are specific changes or tweaks you wish to make to designs on a regular basis.  Contact RCS if you need names of specific programs that you want to run.

  • Corrected problem when running #16/8 flange.  The problem was corrupting data to the #19 tubesheet.

  • When running ASME B16.5 pressure / temperature ratings on a job under Menus mode, added a flag to make user aware that no changes were made to the job file.

  • Changed note on drawings to eliminate excess blank characters.  For example: "See drawing X-7953-R              for job notes" now reads "For job notes see drawing X-7953-R"

  • On UHX program output, [OK per El. Pl. Calc] was revised to reflect the actual primary plus stress.  It also shows former stress before the elastic plastic calculations at the end of the line.

  • Added elastic plastic calculations to floating head section of UHX program.  This was actual a change in the 2010 edition of ASME, but RCS did not get it added until the 2011a addenda.

  • UHX calculations: Added W*, Table UHX-8.1, consisting of Wc, Wm1c, Ws, Wm1s, Wmax, and Wm1max.  These bolt loads are used in the formulas to calculate moment M* per UHX-12.5.6 step 6.  NOTE: Do not confuse these bolt loads with W and WM1 bolt loads for channel and shell side for calculating hr within the data of button [hr_Calc_Data].  These may be the same loaded variables from job file, but are used for two different calculations and may be changed.

  • Added flange change code #124 - Calculate mating flanges separately.  This code is used to calculate flanges with a full diameter tubesheet separately.  There are several flags used along with this change code because collar bolts or tapped holes in the tubesheet are required.  NOTE: If collar bolts or tapped holes are not used through the complete heat exchanger design and drafting system, this would allow the low pressure side flange to be under designed.

  • UHX calculations are now part of the [Execute All] option.  There is no longer a separate button on the toolbar for UHX, but UHX will now be run when the [Execute All] button is clicked, and the UHX calculations under Menus will be found in the [Run] [Menus] section.

  • Fixed the Help->About RCS screen so that the link works with the new website.

  • Added new menu option: [Tools] [Setup] [Material Update], for easier access to the material updates.

  • Updated coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity tables to the 2011a version of ASME code.

  • Updated the heat treat tables from UCS, UHA, UHT, and UNF to the 2011a version of ASME code.

  • Updated the x-ray tables from UCS, UHA, UHT, and UNF to the 2011a version of ASME code.

  • Updated ASME B16.5 external pressure tables and added the 2009 edition of this section.  In the previous (2010) edition of ASME Sect. VIII Div. I, the 2003 edition of the B16.5 pipe flanges and fitting tables were still referenced, but as of the 2011a edition of Sect. VIII Div. I, the 2009 edition of the B16.5 tables are referenced.  The default will now be to use the 2009 edition of ASME B16.5, but note that you can still use older editions if desired by clicking on [Tools] [Tables] [B16.5 PTR] and selecting a different version.

  • Updated the table data for UCS-66 impact test exemption curves.  Changed the program to use minimum tn for pipe and heads per Fig. UCS-66.2.  Also changed program to interactively input materials and thicknesses so it can be used to calculate other exchanger parts per UCS-66.

  • Updated all TEMA tubesheet output to reflect headers per TEMA ninth edition.
